Sewing, Gathering, & Farming in General

The NeCamp Farm is taking a wee sabbatical from chicken herding. We have been making a few changes 'round these here parts. We're keeping a small flock just for us, but no more Friday mornings of washing dozens of eggs 'till my fingers are super raisin'y'. and smelly.  

Papa harvested our small plot of wheat. We've been waiting for some odd weeks for the wheat berries to be crunchy not milky. A truly golden sea in our very own yard. There's something old fashioned and sweet about growing wheat. Like my inner 'Laura Ingalls' spilling with farm'y' delight. 

Papa bundled our wheat into tidy little bundles.  

I decided the wheat would be an excellent location for showing off my new apron. Our church is having summer sewing classes this summer and so I was delving into our scrap bag. A Is for Apron was the inspiration behind this one. Aprons can be addicting. to wear. to sew. 

The towel loop is a huge addition to the apron.
I have been known to steal towels from the kitchen like security blankies. 

Thankful for Wildflowers & A Life of Sacrifice

I haven't been very diligent in my writing or picture taking for that matter. We, as a family, are learning to adjust to a new way of life around these here parts. My father's aunt fell recently and needs a lot of help during her healing process. So, Aunt Ruth and Uncle Jerry have moved in our home. It's pretty fun. Sitting with tea or coffee, helping Aunt Ruth do word searches or crossword puzzles. Teasing Uncle Jerry as we do the dishes together. Watching the Reds win! 

I am very thankful to have grown up in a home where my parents taught good values. Not just the Ten Commandments-kind-of-values, but the lifestyle values that have shaped my personality and my life. The kind of values that I end up living out. Respecting your elders has been given life and new meaning to all of us this past week. Not just giving up your comfy chair, or using your most polite words. But the true respect of really loving your elders by giving up your life for them. Serving them. Loving them unconditionally. Treating them like they really matter. 

"People are what we do. People are more important," says my Papa.

and so we live.  

Thankful for life on a farm. Sweet walks around the farm gathering armfuls of wildflowers.

A Spring Rain

Yesterday morning, Papa went out to start feedin' critters.
He told me to grab my camera. "A storm's a comin'," he said. 

Such lovely dark grey clouds came rolling in from the south. 

A happy farmer. 

Blackberries to come...

The bees thought about swarming. Maybe the rain made them change their minds.

Mama's flower garden is lovely this time of year, such full blooms.

We only have two little robins left in the nest. Three grew up and flew away.
These last two are still being well looked after by a protective mama robin, who was sqwakking  with all her might while I was standing and watching her babies.

Rainy.

But, even though it was rainy, Mama and I were happy to be there! 

The sun came out! The lollipops were a huge hit with the kiddos!
